"Jack Fell Down..."

Well, Ben didn't break his crown, but yesterday during recess he fell off the jungle gym and injured his left kidney! We may never know the whole story of exactly what happened, but he fell onto a bar on the jungle gym and came home complaining that his side hurt "weally bad."

A little later he came out of the bathroom and told Marc that his pee was pink. That's when we called the doctor, who told us to take him to Primary Children's immediately. Marc and Ben spent most of the afternoon and evening in the ER, and at around 8:00 p.m., Marc, Uncle Lolo, and Brother Blair of the Bishopric gave him a blessing.

The lower third of Ben's left kidney was damaged and in order to prevent infection, he needed to have a stint put into the bottom of the kidney, so that the leakage could drain out of his body properly. At around 9:45 p.m. he went in for surgery. He was put under general anesthesia, and the stint was put in through the catheter. He'll need to have the stint in for about a month, and then we'll need to go back to have it removed. It should allow time his kidney to heal properly.

All is looking well for his recovery, although he's really sore, and homesick. He was really brave and stoic through most of the process (the catheter was pretty traumatic), and when I asked his if there was anything he wanted me to bring him today, he just said, "Can you bwing me home?" So sweet.
